ADK AU FETs Compared on Drums -Hamburg/Vienna/Berlin/Cremona

Description

I had a drum session today, so we put up all four of ADK's FET AU series mics to test them! I've been lucky enough to have a pre-release version of the Cremona and Berlin, as well as the ADK Hamburg 67 and the ADK Vienna 12 here at my studio for a bit to evaluate them. The FET mics were all placed in a fan above the rack tom about 6.5 feet off the ground, with the diaphrams as close together as I could manage. There is a tiny variation in th directionality but not more than a few degrees. They were all set to the same level on a different channel of my Focusrite ISA 428 on medium impedance.

  • Cremona wins this shootout for me. Punchy-est and nicest highs.

  • I agree. My drummer, Derek, preferred the Vienna II. They were similar, but the Vienna was a bit more aggressive sounding whereas the Cremona was more clean and sparkly.
