Hear Me Da Money - Mic Pre Shootout - Male Vocals

Description

This was a vocal preamp shootout I discovered online that I found very interesting. It pits extreme low end vs. extreme high end. The mic used in each recording was a AKG 414B. Preamps range from the ridiculously cheap mackie vlz to the ultra high end Fearn ($3800 street) Signal chain 414B>preamp>Apogee psx 100 Can you HEAR Da Money?

Audio Clips

  • Presonus Mp 20

  • D.W. Fearn Vt 2

  • I really don't know if I can hear a major difference. The upper mids seem a little more harsh on the Presonus. I think the Fearn and the Neve sound a little more natural and smooth.

  • These are from the Lynn Fuston mic-pre shootout CD!

I bought it, and I found it totally useless. There's something going on in that studio or in that session, or in the mastering, or in the CD manufacture, that just totally homogenised everything...the detail is AWOL...
